Not really about Norway, but….

Following up on my post about linguistic variation, I recently came across this wonderful map from the fantastic Strange Maps blog:

(click through to the strange maps website for the large version)

This map shows the different names for a generic soft drink by county in the US.  As you can see, there is a tremendous amount of regional variation.  From personal experience, people definitely do give you strange looks and make fun of you when you say the “wrong” name for a given area.

If anyone has any maps like this for different words and parts of Norway, please send them!

  1. I want to know what “Other” is. There are bizarre spots of VA (and strange, New Mexico) that sport an “Other” preference. ??
